We Indians truly become patriotic mostly on 2 occasions, firstly off-course because of our Indian army and secondly for Cricket.

Women In Blue

I'm actually here to applause Indian women cricket team.
Probably most of you must have seen world cup final yesterday (or have read about in papers).
It was a memorable match with sold out in the stadium and world wide audience of over 100 million (Actor Akshay Kumar was also among the audience to watch the finals).

Alas, We fall short of 9 runs in repeating the history of 1983 (P.S- India won 1983's world cup on the grounds of Lords, London only). (Score- India 219/10 and England- 228/7)
It was a memorable match, both teams were brilliant. But "kya karein dil toh humara Hindustani hai na," that why I won't praise England on their victory.

Actually, I'm actually here to honour Women in Blue. Firstly I must admit much to my shame and maybe you will join me too, that our knowledge about these pride of India are minimal, unlike men cricket team (where you might even know Virat Kohli's Allergies).
I am here to share few lesser known fact about Women National Cricket Team.
  • The women cricket team was formed in 1974 (40 years after the first women cricket match was played) and India won its 1st match in 1976 against West India.
First Indian Women Cricket Team, 1975

  • The team got its first Test victory in 2002 against South Africa and in the same year, Captain Mithali Raj scored record- breaking 214 runs against England.

  • Mithali Raj beat Virat Kohli for this year Padma Shri and she is also the recipient of Arjuna Award.

  • Anjum Chopra has won both Arjuna Award and Padma Shri for excellence in sport.
  • Indian Team has reached the finals of world cup twice in 2005 against Australia and in 2017 against England.

  • Indian ranks 4th in ICC women ranking and this year India has played 14 ODI's and had won 12.
